The practical AI Visibility guide
AI visibility: understand where your business appears, and why.
Being known, being recommended, and being cited are different signals. Learn which one you need to measure, what the result means, and how AEOchamp helps you find your next improvement.
Put it into practice
Start with the question
What is AI visibility?
AI visibility describes whether and how your business appears in AI answers that matter to your buyers. A useful measurement names the audience, the questions, the systems, and the observation period. “We appeared for agency approval-software questions in these models” is meaningful. “Our AI visibility is 80” needs more context.
For a client-approval product, a model might correctly describe the business but omit it from an unbranded shortlist. A search assistant might cite a helpful tutorial without recommending the product. Both are useful findings, but they call for different work. Start with the decision you want the evidence to support: clarify positioning, improve a use-case page, or assess visits from answer systems.
Keep the measurements separate
Five signals, five different questions.
| Signal | Question it answers | Where to check |
|---|---|---|
| Recognition and clarity | Does the model know the business and describe it correctly? | AEOchamp Domain Clarity: inspect category, audience, job, and the answer. |
| Recommendation strength | How strongly is the business suggested for this buyer situation? | AEOchamp User Intent: compare Organic and Mentioned, then open model results. |
| Brand mentions | Does the brand name appear, and is that mention favorable or useful? | Review recorded answers using a consistent inclusion rule. A name alone is not a recommendation. |
| Citations | Does the answer link to a source, and which page supports which claim? | Inspect source links in the actual search experience you are measuring. |
| Customer outcomes | Did someone visit, enquire, sign up, or buy? | Use your analytics and customer records. Model scores do not measure conversions. |
Search experiences can ground answers in retrieved web pages. OpenAI explains how to inspect ChatGPT Search citations. That is a different observation from a model-knowledge analysis with browsing disabled. Keep the two result sets separate.
Diagnose before publishing
Use AEOchamp to connect understanding with recommendation fit.
First, run Domain Clarity. Compare what models think you sell, who it serves, and which problem it solves. Check the underlying answers before treating an unfamiliar category label as a mistake. “Collaboration software” may be broad but reasonable; “design consultancy” may be wrong for a software business.
Next, open User Intent. It starts with five baseline buyer questions informed by the Domain Clarity profile. Organic means the brand is withheld; Mentioned means your domain is supplied. Both use model training knowledge without browsing. Open a question to compare model scores and the competing brands that appear.

Start with what buyers need.
Five baseline intents turn your business profile into concrete questions your potential customers might ask.
Find the missed recommendation.
A score of 14 organic and 78 mentioned is a +64 gap: a strong fit when named, but a weak presence without the prompt.

Turn a result into work
Finish one improvement before expanding the dashboard.
Write a short finding with an owner: “Two models describe us as a consultancy, although we sell approval software.” Then write the page task: “Explain the product category, review-link workflow, and approval record on the homepage, with a real screenshot.” A specific task is easier to review than “improve AEO.”
After publishing, use a live Domain Clarity check to inspect the current explanation. Record the changed page, analysis date, and model. Review buyer-question results in a comparable context, and keep enquiries and conversions in your business report. Google’s guidance for generative AI search emphasizes useful content and foundational SEO. Use the diagnosis to improve the customer’s experience, then follow the AEO strategy guide to plan the next cycle.
Your questions, answered
What is AI visibility?
AI visibility is how a business or its content appears in AI-generated answers for a defined set of questions and systems. Recognition, recommendations, mentions, citations, and visits measure different parts of that presence.
Is an AI visibility score the same as a citation rate?
No. A recommendation score describes assessed fit in an answer. A citation rate counts answers with a qualifying source link. Always check the definition and denominator before comparing numbers.
Why use AEOchamp for AI visibility?
AEOchamp connects business understanding with recommendation fit. Domain Clarity shows category, audience, job, recognition, and confidence. User Intent compares organic and mentioned scores with competitors and model-level answers.
Can AEOchamp guarantee visibility?
No. It provides evidence to guide positioning and content improvements. It does not guarantee recommendations, search rankings, or citations.
